The first few months of a baby's life involve a lot of check-ins, and for good reason. Early evaluations and screenings help make sure your newborn is developing the way they should and give you a clear picture of their health from the very start. Here's what we offer at Xpress Pediatrics.
A newborn evaluation is a thorough head-to-toe assessment of your baby's health. Our team will check their weight, length, and head circumference, examine their heart, lungs, hips, and reflexes, and assess how they're feeding and sleeping. These early visits are a critical opportunity to catch anything that might need attention before it becomes a bigger concern. They're also a great chance for parents to ask every question they've been storing up since well before the baby arrived.
Newborn health screenings are designed to detect certain conditions early, when they're most treatable. Our team can perform screenings during your visit and will walk you through what each one checks for and what the results mean. If anything in a screening suggests that your baby needs further evaluation or a specialist referral, we'll make sure you have a clear and supportive next step.
Getting your baby started on the recommended vaccine schedule is one of the most important things you can do to protect their health in the early months and years of life. Our team follows the pediatric immunization schedule from the American Academy of Pediatrics and will let you know which vaccines your baby is due for at each visit. We'll explain what each vaccine does, answer any questions you have, and make the process as smooth as possible for both you and your little one.
Feeding a newborn, whether by breast or bottle, comes with its own set of challenges, and it's one of the most common concerns new parents bring up. Our team can help you evaluate whether your baby is feeding well, gaining weight appropriately, and hitting the developmental milestones you'd expect at their age. If you have concerns about your baby's eating, sleep patterns, or overall development, we're happy to talk through them with you.
Most guidelines recommend that newborns have their first check-up within the first few days of coming home from the hospital. Getting started early helps establish a baseline for your baby's health and makes sure they stay on track with vaccinations and developmental milestones. If something comes up between scheduled visits, our team is available 7 days a week for walk-in and same-day appointments.
In the first year of life, babies are seen quite frequently because so much growth and development happens so quickly. Most guidelines recommend visits at:
From the age of 3 on, it’s recommended that children come in at least once a year for their annual exam.
For your newborn's first visit, it helps to bring any discharge paperwork from the hospital, your baby's birth record, your insurance card, and a list of any questions or concerns you've noticed since coming home. If your baby was given any medications or supplements before discharge, bring those along too. The more information we have from the start, the better picture we get of your baby's health.
